Christianity is so dangerous that people kill people for being one. Christians are the most persecuted religious group around the world.
These are my brothers and sisters. If you know Jesus, then they are your brothers and sisters too. Brothers and sisters are we all and under one family of God. Yes, Christians will be persecuted– Jesus says so:
“The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. … But all these things will they do unto you for My Name’s sake, because they know not him that sent Me. If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. He that hateth Me hateth My Father also.” (John 15:20-23)
But should we ignore them? Are we not one body in Christ? Not only are we members of one another at our local church, city, state, and country, but also around the world. These family members of ours face more opposition than we do. They are bold for Christ and their faith is genuine. They are part of us in every way, in places that some of us can’t reach, in situations that some of us are not willing to be part of. They can not turn on the tv, look at their ipod, or go on facebook to tune out their horrific reality. They face it every day. Everyday our faces are on facebook. What a contrast.
“And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.” 1 Corinthians 12:26
Can you imagine your hand being beaten to a bloody pulp? Your entire body would feel it. The pain would hurt so much you might even cry with tears of pain. Well– that’s what the body of Christ should look like. There are parts of our body hurting, in despair, crying, being persecuted, being killed, being separated from their families for their faith. Yet, the other parts of the body don’t even care or even know what’s happening to their body. If we are to take 1 Corinthians 12:26 seriously, perhaps we would practice a little prayer and discernment for the entire body of Christ. If there are parts of us hurting, shouldn’t we be hurting too? Yeah, maybe we don’t think we are being persecuted, but as a whole we are. Our spirit inside us should be mourning for them and interceding on their behalf.
In Acts 12:5 it says that “Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.” If you continue reading you see the result of this act. An angel appears to Peter in prison amongst the 12 guards (4 squads of soldiers) that were watching him. Peter was chained between two guards. The chains fell off his hands and the Angel lead Peter out past the first and second guard posts. Even the Iron gate that led to the city miraculously “opened to them of it’s own accord” (12:10). This is the result of constant prayers offered to God. The church was still praying when Peter came knocking on their door.
Yes, they were in disbelief when the little girl Rhoda told them that Peter was at the door. But how many times do we fall in the same mentality? We pray in faith, and when God answers our brain has a hard time believing. Or maybe we are uncertain our prayers will be answered? We might struggle with that, but we must remember we serve an almighty God who created all things (If you have trouble believing in that then I recommend you diseducate yourself on evolution theory and educate yourself on creation theory and the science that supports it. It helped me tremendously and has helped my perspective on God whom my prayers are being offered to). The point of this is that they acted in prayer, interceding for a brother in chains, and God saw the church selflessly being in one accord. Therefore, he sent help, in this case a servant angel, to serve and answer their prayers.
Can you imagine the power there would be if we did the same to our brothers and sisters?
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the Children of God! Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in Heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” (Matthew 5:9-12).
